Geschichtspendel, 2007

Dimensions variable

Video camera, projector, various materials

In the installation "Geschichtspendel 2007," I explore the dynamic interplay between chaos and order, memory and transience, through the integration of light and found objects. This conceptual piece unfolds as a visual and tactile dialogue, inviting viewers to reconsider the relationships between disparate elements within a constantly evolving framework.

At its core, "Geschichtspendel 2007" features a video camera integrated into a chaotic pendulum apparatus. This camera captures a continuous stream of imagery: fragments of everyday life, found objects, and snippets of newspaper clippings arranged on the ground. These seemingly random elements are subjected to the relentless movement of the pendulum, creating an ever-shifting tapestry of associations and narratives.

The installation's dimensions are intentionally variable, reflecting the fluidity and adaptability of its thematic exploration. A projector casts these captured images onto a surface, further complicating their spatial and temporal contexts. Light becomes both a medium and a metaphor, illuminating the interstitial spaces between memory and present experience.

Through "Geschichtspendel 2007," I aim to challenge conventional notions of narrative coherence and visual representation. The pendulum's erratic oscillations disrupt linear storytelling, instead fostering connections based on chance encounters and serendipitous alignments. Each swing of the pendulum generates a new configuration, emphasizing the arbitrary nature of memory and the subjective construction of meaning.
